Ten years ago, a three-story house located in the historic center of Lana, Italy, was renovated to create a more livable residence. However, in 2021 the residence located in Am Gries 20/A was again renovated by an Italian architectural studio, Messner Architects, for his client is a famous artist named Hannes Egger. The building is designed to create an abstract feeling so that artists can be freer to seek inspiration.

The renovation project started with a façade designed naturally and looks as it is through exposed walls and simple windows. Not without reason, Messner Architects deliberately presented this "honest" looking façade to harmonize the surrounding environment. As a result, the façade of this house looks striking and is able to compensate for the minimalist interior area.

This building not only serves as a residence but also functions as a studio that provides a place for Hannes Egger to express his creative ideas and present his work. The ground floor, which originally functioned as a workshop, has now changed its function to become a studio for Hannes Egger. The interior space, which is dominated by white tones, is described as a blank canvas that is able to create freedom for Hannes Egger to pour his creativity.

The outline of this renovation is the uniqueness of the bathroom which looks ordinary but unusual. This is due to the arrangement of the bathroom layout, which is usually built in the edge area, and placed in the central area of the room by Messner Architects. Not only aims to meet primary needs, but this bathroom also functions as a barrier between areas. The creative idea didn't stop there, Messner Architects also designed a closet complete with drawers applied to the outer wall of the bathroom. Wooden cabinets attached to the walls of this bathroom are designed as storage units to meet space needs.

In designing this studio space, Messner Architects presented only one point in the central area. This area seems to bring the mind to focus on finding inspiration from the items in the wooden cabinet. Behind the cabinet that is the source of this inspiration, there is a bathroom with a reflective door that can hide the function of the space inside, so that the outside area still looks neat. The yellow tone is applied to the bathroom to give a new touch to the design of this area so that this room does not feel monotonous.

In the side area of the studio, Messner Architects designed a green garden with glass doors that opened the space leading to the garden. This area becomes the center of light and natural air circulation that enters throughout the studio area. Through the garden, there is a small pavilion that functions as a workshop and storage area to meet the needs of the artist's space.

For Hannes Egger, a studio is a place where thought and creativity can take place so as to produce outstanding work. In addition, the studio is also a place to escape and find a connection with the world. Overall, the studio's interior is designed to meet a variety of needs, from exhibition presentations, workshops, rehearsals, studies, or meetings and celebrations.
