Yuyuan Station located in Shanghai not only serves as public transport but also as a starting point for tours for visitors. This is a subway station so the condition of the structure on the station cannot be changed, such as walls, columns, and floor layers. This condition is a challenge for interior designers, XING DESIGN. In addition, the geographic Yuyuan station is located in the cultural landmark area, so cultural elements are inevitable in terms of design, this requires designers to be sensitive to existing cultural elements.

XING DESIGN combines Eastern and Western, historical, and contemporary styles for the design applied to Yuyuan Station on Shanghai Metro Line 14. This can be seen in the undulating ceiling that visualizes the illusion of the Huangpu river that is above this station. In addition, located in the underground of Shanghai city, the waveform on the ceiling of Yuyuan station creates a feeling as if visitors can feel the pulse of Shanghai city.

Being one of the public transportation venues in the Yuyuan area and as a starting point for tours for visitors, the design elements on the ceiling of the station are designed to create an immersive art experience. With a lighting system that is open to the public, people can participate in the creation of forming public spaces in Shanghai.

To create a corrugated ceiling, Tens of thousands of aluminum panels are cut, bent, and spliced to create the perfect shape. The cultural elements in the station area become a guideline for XING DESIGN in designing buildings that are "obedient" to the surrounding culture. So the design team developed the roof shape of the Chinese Temple of Gods, which was applied at the end of the wave arch on the ceiling of Yuyuan station.

Complementing the beauty and dramatizing the ceiling, the LED lights applied present a variety of light effects. The light from the LED lights can change according to the moment or important event that is taking place. For example, the bright lights are red to commemorate the national day and spring festival in Shanghai. There is also a pink color designed to create the illusion of beautiful flower petals that bloom to commemorate Valentine's Day. Everything is arranged attractively so that anyone can dissolve into the atmosphere.
Overall, this Yuyuan station in Shanghai city applies various cultural elements subtly by blending contemporary styles.
