The Return of Milan Design Week with Its Four Main Design Districts

Aryo Sumbogo | Friday, 1 July 2022

As the most important design event in the world, Milan Design Week is finally back, after experiencing a two-year delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Uncharacteristically, which took place in April, this year the event initiated by Salone del Mobile has taken place on June 6-12, 2022.

In addition to the largest furniture exhibition from Salone del Mobile which is the main dish, Milan Design Week this time is also enlivened by hundreds of art performances in various design districts of the city. Of course, with Salone del Mobile, the design districts will feature a wide variety of fringe events, installations, and exhibitions. As for this year, there are at least four major design districts taking part in Milan Design Week.

The first is the Brera Design District, located in downtown Milan, Italy. The Brera Design District is one of the largest and most crowded design districts in celebration of this edition of Milan Design Week. This is because this design district has many exhibitions and events that not only cooperate with several brands but are also presented in several temporary venues.

Next, there is the Isola Design District which is a platform for designers and local creative industry players. Taking place in the Isola neighborhood, north of the city center, the district has a series of events such as exhibitions, installations, workshops, and talk shows with the theme 'Together as One'.

The third is the Tortona Design Week which includes a variety of exhibitions and events throughout the Tortona zone area of Milan, southwest of the city. This year, Tortona Design Week focuses on the theme of 'Fluidity and Design'. Finally, there is 5Vie Design Week which is located in Milan’s Cinque Vie district, a medieval historical precinct and close to the Duomo Cathedral. At this 5Vie Design Week, visitors can enjoy various exhibitions and talk shows whose one theme is 'Prototyping Utopias'.
