Occupying land in a mountainous region that has long been strong in character, making SAOTA-designed Villa Courbe has to appear with its own peculiarities. As a residence that also houses an art gallery, Villa Courbe is also obliged to adapt its program to the topography of the land.

In line with these needs, the issue of material selection is certainly also an important job in the design of the residence located in Lac Léman, Switzerland. One of the materials that stand out from its external appearance is concrete, which has many uses. Starting from the heavy board-shaped panels in the entrance hall, the monolithic curve next to the cabana pool, to the boundary wall of the underground pool and spa place.

Interestingly, the image of concrete in this house is not contrary to other materials, especially in the interior. This material wealth actually complements each other. For example, at the entrance, concrete walls are side by side with a layer of zinc as a sheath for the building. While on the inside, such as in the living room, the use of wood and natural stone materials looks stronger. However, it remains in harmony with the concrete walls that are there.

Not to forget, glass material also plays an important role in imaging Villa Courbe which must at least be able to balance the surrounding landscape that is the background. More than that, the abundance of glazed openings also helps with the natural enumeration of the interior. Even the natural light-bearing of it can reach the spaces underground. Thus, the image of Villa Courbe is so strong thanks to the wide variety of materials used it can be felt always, both from the outside and the inside.
