Starting from the client's desire to create a modern and futuristic space that fits the surrounding natural environment and is in harmony with the architecture around the building. Designers Cai Xunna and Lin Jiacheng of the architectural firm CUN PANDA NANA designed the interior space of 1/2 Coffee and Bar that combines the characteristics of the surrounding nature with the concept of a modern and futuristic space.
Located in Gulangyu, this building is the original structure of a 19th-century building with an awesome view of the sea. CUN PANDA NANA designed the interior of the café by maintaining its round architectural shape that looks in harmony with the surrounding nature. The design is inspired by ficus with small leaves that grow on the island of Gulangyu, China. Designers designed the interior of the café with a light steel structure resembling a tree trunk that grows indoors and spreads up the ceiling to welcome visitors into the room imitating the surrounding nature.
During the day this café is like a forest with trees shrouded in white paint with a soft touch of modern neon lights on the café 1/2 logo and leaves on the ceiling shining on the room giving the illusion of sunlight shining on the ground. At night the tree trunks and leaves spreading over the ceiling show a different identity. The application of blue fluorescent lamps with a touch of yellow fluorescent lights adds a warm impression and gives an attractive appearance for visitors at night.
Its unique design with lighting and futuristic color selection is characteristic of the café interior. In addition, the selection of ergonomic and minimalist furniture with harmonious colors strengthens the modern and futuristic concept applied to 1/2 Coffee and Bar.
Creating an outstanding design taking into account the historical context, the surrounding nature, and the wishes of CUN PANDA NANA's clients has succeeded in creating a spatial memory on the interior of 1/2 of the coffee and bar in Gulangyu, China.
