Visitors cannot just defecate in the bushes or behind trees when climbing mountains or exploring the forest This is important because open defecation in the forest can be harmful if you encounter wild animals, the cleanliness of vital tools is not guaranteed, and it causes unpleasant odors around it.

Unfortunately, public toilet facilities in mountains or forests are usually less feasible and pay less attention to user comfort. This phenomenon made the Jupe company design a comfortable public toilet in the middle of the wilderness, in the United States.

Called 'The Portal,' this public toilet is square with a roof that protrudes slightly forward to mimic the visuals of a spacecraft. As the name implies, The Portal is represented as a gateway to another world that seems to make users forget that they are in the middle of a forest.

The Portal, which carries the sci-fi concept, has a two-way reflective wall that can camouflage with the surrounding natural environment. To ensure the user's sense of security, Jupe added gray roller blind curtains to the front glass wall to maintain privacy.

Due to its location in the middle of a forest, The Portal makes it possible to create with an infinite focus of flexibility. So that the volume is three times wider than portable toilets in general (3 meters x 3.66 meters). A broad impression is also presented by Jupe in its interior which is dominated by white. The choice of white color can give a broad impression to the space and create a clean interior.

During the day in the forest, the view will be dazzling through an elliptical skylight that captures the silhouettes of tree branches and leaves illuminated by the sun. The existence of this skylight creates an immersive optical illusion and provides natural lighting in the room.

Interestingly, even though it is located in the middle of the wilderness, The Portal tries to appear confident because the system is supported by modern technology, such as 200-watt solar panels, batteries, and inverters that produce artificial lighting (LED strips) and exhaust. Not only that but in this toilet, there is also a motion detection device that functions as a controller of electricity use in a room that works through sensors. This modern tool responds to the user's movements when opening the toilet door, automatically turning on the LED light.

The Portal design project also contributes to the improvement of public facilities needed by the community. With futurist design and modern technology, The Portal has provided convenience, comfort, and safety for users of public toilets in the middle of the forest. For now, perhaps The Portal is the only modern and state-of-the-art public restroom in the middle of the wilderness.
